The Wall Street Journal just published an opinion piece on attachment parenting & cloth diapers in their Saturday edition. The headline – “Spend every moment with your child? Make your own baby food and use cloth diapers? Erica Jong wonders how motherhood became such a prison for modern women.“ The author is clearly talented. Her article was deftly written to stab a knife in the heart of those who have wielded other equally venomous attacks in her direction. She eloquently attacked the parenting style, but I wish she had identified the real issue before writing a sadly misdirected article to be

So I’ve been reading forums, facebook, twitter and emails all day. I’m grateful for all the wonderful people who have sent me supportive messages… God love you, really, you’re wonderful. So, I’m going to step back a few months for this post and give you all a little back story. When we launched the bumGenius 3s… it was no big deal… relatively pain free… accepted well by the industry and customers alike. The 3s were a functionality change, no big color splash… but a big assembly, pattern and production change. After the 3s came out, I promised myself that I

We noticed comments on the Cotton Babies Facebook page this weekend about a picture posted of a mama wearing an older baby on her back using a stretchy wrap. She was shopping our Cloth Diaper Garage Sale this weekend and clearly enjoying her day… Understandably, a few people were very concerned about the way she was wearing her baby. Don’t go look, to protect her privacy we deleted the photo. However, this raised a pretty hairy topic this morning that I thought we should discuss with you. The way the baby was being worn isn’t recommended by the manufacturer. It

I’m going to start out this blog post by telling you that we don’t often talk about things like this. I’m not exactly a “stick it out there so you can tell us we are doing a good job” kind of person. I know, the PR people are all shaking their heads in dismay. It’s not exactly the best promotional strategy. But it’s me. It’s my heart, it’s our company, we don’t like to talk about it and there you go. Disclaimer over. Have you ever wondered how you could make a significant impact on your local community using cloth

On Thursday morning at 6am, a crowd of cloth diapering parents and their babies (wearing cloth diapers of course) is going to convene on Rockefeller Plaza with the goal of making cloth diapers talked about in every living room across America. The cloth diaper movement has always been fueled by moms, bloggers, tweeters and responsible parents everywhere.Cloth diaper companies can’t hold a candle to the advertising budgets of the disposable giants, but we do know something about viral marketing and about how to get a culture talking about using cloth diapers and being responsible with their child’s future. Last week,

Hi everyone. Wow, what a day we had yesterday. It was amazing to watch the visitor count on the website climb (hours before the video posted to YouTube), sad to watch the server melt under the load and thrilling to watch the order count climb as retailers and customers ordered tens of thousands of diapers yesterday. A truly jaw dropping day from my vantage point. I had no idea that our users could respond in such a strong way in such a short period of time. You are amazing and the combined power of the cloth diapering community is nothing

We’ve received many questions today about what exactly what we changed about the hook & loop. Our new hook & loop is made out of 100% polyester (the vast majority of hook & loop available in the United States is made of nylon). It is flexible, softer, and stickier after washing. I absolutely love it! The photo to the right is a picture of the old laundry tabs and the new laundry tabs. These stay soft and flexible over time while retaining their stickiness. (sidenote: in this photo you can also see the start/stop of the top stitching just above the
