Win a $100 gift certificate to Cotton Babies
May 7, 2010 11:00 am | by

Have you ever told your kids how happy you are that they were born? I was looking at my children wrestling on the couch the other day and had a melty mommy moment. Andrew has such a gentle heart. Oscar loves to laugh. The photo to the right is Elsie at a week old. She is fourteen months old now and turning into a little dancing (and couch wrestling!) diva. She was such a pleasant surprise. I didn’t know how much I could love another little person. Now I know. I tell my kids almost every night that God put

How much waste does a baby wearing disposable diapers really generate?
April 28, 2010 3:03 pm | by

Cotton Babies has long been frustrated by the lack of information available about how each baby wearing disposable diapers impacts landfills. We are working on a project to collect data about how much used disposable diapers weigh. The goal of this project is to estimate the approximate weight of the waste generated from a child wearing disposable diapers full time.  To participate, please have your baby wear one disposable diaper for a normal length of time (as you define it). At the next diaper change, please weigh that disposable diaper.  You can submit the information about that diaper using this

Good Moms
April 12, 2010 12:10 pm | by

As I watched the comments flowing in on my post about why all moms should be treated with respect, I was overwhelmed by just how many of you have been so deeply impacted by people or companies who questioned your ability to be a good mom – or tied being a good mom to the use of a particular behavior or type of product.   There are hundreds of readers here. So share your stories, mommas.   I’ll start… I’ve had many supportive women in my life over the last seven years of being a mom. One of those women

Things I learn about cloth diapers – while traveling internationally
April 1, 2010 10:17 am | by

I’ve done quite a bit of traveling for business. Everywhere I go, I look for cloth diapers and how other cultures handle diaper care. Diaper care is an important issue in other parts of the world too, so I’m just as interested in what people put on their baby’s bottom as I am in how they take care of it after it’s dirty. In every bathroom, in every country, I notice the toilet design, what’s on the wall, whether or not there is toilet paper, how many years it might have been since the toilet was cleaned… (you get the

All moms deserve to be treated with respect.
February 17, 2010 7:25 pm | by

All moms deserve to be treated with respect. I’ll say it again, maybe a little louder this time. All moms deserve to be treated with respect. We all know that there are really bad moms out there. I’m not writing about those moms.   I’m writing about the moms we are all friends with – the ones who really, truly, want to do a good job taking care of their baby. I’m writing about you. You deserve to know that you are a good mom.   Over the last seven years, I’ve found myself in an interesting position with the

Help a Mother Out
February 17, 2010 11:50 am | by

Help a Mother Out partners with organizations throughout California to bring diapers to high need families. They essentially match up donators with donees (is that a word?) to provide diapers to families and young mothers in need. They also partner with diaper banks around the nation. Since May 2009, they have collected over 156,900 diapers for families in need! SO INCREDIBLE! Most of the families they help are not in a position to use cloth, but we recently saw a tweet from them mentioning one of their partnering organizations had a need for cloth diapers and we were so blessed
