Tuesday Giveaway: Nursing Essentials
February 21, 2012 4:48 pm | by

We spend quite a bit of time here on the Cotton Babies blog talking about cloth diapers and output, which does consume quite a bit of life for most babies. But of equal importance is input. At Cotton Babies, we have a variety of accessories to help you feed your little one, no matter the method. Breastfeeding is often declared the most economical way to feed your little one in their early days because it requires the fewest accessories. You may find that a few things for mom will make the task a bit more comfortable. Two of our favorites

Feelin’ fine in just a few minutes time
March 23, 2011 5:00 am | by

A while back, we asked for “Real Mom Talk” topics and one mom suggested ‘how to look your best when you haven’t showered in days.’ When I read it aloud to the Cotton Babies offices, a mom immediately answered “Flat Iron!” While a little tongue-in-cheek, it’s a great topic to discuss. It’s hard to feel your best when you are sleep deprived and your body is recovering from pregnancy and delivery. Add breastfeeding into the mix and it’s easy to feel as if your body is not your own. It’s taken some time, but with boldness, I learned to ask

Lost That Lovin’ Feeling?
February 9, 2011 6:05 am | by

Disclaimer: Today on the blog we are talking about sex. If you have children who can read and don’t want to have an awkward conversation, we recommend reading this with some privacy. We’re addressing this issue today because it was a highly requested topic last fall when Cotton Babies customers suggested topics for Real Mom Talk. Previously, we’ve discussed in Real Mom Talk about some of the physical changes that occur in our bodies post birth. Today, we’re going to discuss a bit about how to deal with the psychological changes.   In those early baby days, you battle sleep

Nitty Gritty on Nursing
November 10, 2010 4:05 pm | by

Today in Real Mom Talk, we move north to talk about our two best girl friends. Nothing can truly prepare you for what it feels like to nurse a baby. Maybe you used that breast pump on your shelf to try to induce labor at week 40, so you think you have an idea of what it will be like, but not even that compares to a real, live, hungry baby. Sure, it’s a wonderful, natural thing women have done for centuries, but that doesn’t mean it is always easy or feels nice. For some moms, breastfeeding is easy, completely

Oh the Ooze!
November 8, 2010 4:02 pm | by

The moment your child emerges from the womb is amazing. It’s a rush of emotion, excitement and fluids. As you bask in the glow of the moment, it’s easy to forget what’s happening below. Thankfully medical professionals assist with the initial cleanup, but after those early hours, it becomes a relentless task that only a sleep deprived, mother of a newborn can care for. Very few women truly understand what postpartum bleeding is like until after they’ve had their first child. Which leaves many first time mothers unprepared, both emotionally and with inadequate supplies. Most resources state that average postpartum

All moms deserve to be treated with respect.
February 17, 2010 7:25 pm | by

All moms deserve to be treated with respect. I’ll say it again, maybe a little louder this time. All moms deserve to be treated with respect. We all know that there are really bad moms out there. I’m not writing about those moms.   I’m writing about the moms we are all friends with – the ones who really, truly, want to do a good job taking care of their baby. I’m writing about you. You deserve to know that you are a good mom.   Over the last seven years, I’ve found myself in an interesting position with the

2 Days to a Rash
November 10, 2009 5:20 pm | by

Early Wednesday morning we welcomed Molly to our family.  Baby number 8 for us, she is rewriting the rules of the household already.  She is our smallest baby at 6lbs, 12oz.  My labor with her was one of my longer and harder labors, but we are recovering nicely and she is a champion sucker and has taken easily to breastfeeding. Now all of my children have sensitive skin, so hers was really no surprise, except for how fast it showed itself.  Her second night was spent in the NICU as we tried to discern the nature of a heart arrhythmia.

A Post-partum Review – Nursing A Newborn
May 8, 2009 1:44 pm | by

Elsie is now almost three months old. We’re finally settling into a routine. She is adjusting well to life outside of my uterus. As we suspected, our first weeks with her home were wonderful but rough as my body went through the initial postpartum period. I’m back to work now and learning how to to do life as a company owner with a nursling. When I posted about her birth, I promised a review of some of my favorite products for the postpartum time period. I’m finally getting a moment this afternoon to write a review of the nursing products

A new bumGenius tester is born…
March 3, 2009 2:24 pm | by

Elsie Lillian Labit was born on February 13th at 7:18am, weighing 8 pounds even. She is healthy, beautiful and such a happy little girl. Please forgive my lack of initial updates. I’d planned to blog through the first bit of her life, but it hasn’t happened between recovering from having a baby and just adjusting to life with a newborn at home. Elsie has been in cloth diapers alternating with disposables as needed. I have about 16 newborn diaper changes and we’re doing a load of diapers nearly every day right now. We can use the bumGenius One-Size diapers now
