Separation Anxiety
June 13, 2012 1:31 pm | by

Editor’s note: the following blog is meant to share perspective regarding one mom’s experience and inner feelings when dealing with separation anxiety. This content is in no way intended to be instructions of how every family should deal with this situation. In the world of parenting, there are few phrases more frightening than “separation anxiety.” Frightening, because everyone has an opinion on how it should be handled. Frightening, because grandparents and other well-meaning experienced parents have tips on how they dealt with it. But mostly frightening, because outside of junior high romance, few things in life leave you questioning your

Tuesday Giveaway: Potty Training made easier!
June 12, 2012 9:55 am | by

Since we’ve been talking a lot recently about potty training, this week’s giveaway is two of our favorite items to make things a bit easier for you once your little one begins showing signs they are ready to potty train.   The Flip Potty Trainer Kit comes with one one-size cover that adjusts to fit from approximately 20-50 lbs (or approx. 18 mos to 5T) and three organic cotton inserts. The Flip Potty Trainer is made to slide up and down, more like regular underwear. The inserts are designed to catch accidents, while still allowing your little one feel when

Cloth 201: Diaper Creams
June 11, 2012 11:10 am | by

One of the benefits of cloth diapering is that many parents discover they have less diaper rash once they switch to cloth. But sometimes life happens, be it a virus, food sensitivity, a detergent sensitivity, or an unfortunate poopy diaper that stays on too long. We get quite a few calls about how to safely use a diaper cream with your favorite Elemental Joy, bumGenius, Flip and Econobum products. Diaper rash creams are generally safe to use with cloth diapers when used in appropriate amounts. Follow the directions on the container for best results. When using a diaper rash cream that

Better Life Soap and Lotion!
June 8, 2012 4:39 pm | by

We’ve been talking about potty training a lot this week. One thing is certain when you have little ones in diapers or potty learning, you wash your hands a LOT. My skin was the worst during the years I had three children wearing diapers. I have sensitive skin and it was difficult to find a soap that would wash away all those germs without tearing away my sensitive skin with it. That’s why I’m so excited Cotton Babies now carries No Regrets hand and body soap and Cool Calm Collected hand and body lotion. I first tried Cool Calm Collected

In the trenches of potty training
June 7, 2012 2:59 pm | by

Did you read Jill’s wonderful and informative post earlier this week about the Potty Training Boot Camp method? Let me warn you, this post is nothing like that. We are, as I type, smack in the middle of attempting potty learning with Little Sir, our 2.5 year old son. This is a post, not from experience and hindsight, but from the trenches. I can’t tell you “how we did it” as much as “how we are attempting to do this”. May you learn from my ongoing mistakes!   Let me set the stage for you. Little Sir is what some

Potty Training Boot Camp
June 6, 2012 4:03 pm | by

The plan was always to have a second baby before my first turned three.   As we started to get closer to having to pull the trigger on working to get pregnant again, the plan quickly evolved to having my first, a boy- Kendall, potty trained before his younger sibling arrived.   Yes, I know that’s pretty young to potty train, especially a boy, when it comes to the advice I’ve read. We were really lucky, though, because he seemed more than ready. At not even 2, we left him for the first time, in the care of my mother.
