Are we there yet? Are we there yet? I really need to go to bed. If I go to sleep now, I’ll get more sleep tonight than the last two nights combined. I can hear you saying “Then go to bed! Why are you up writing a silly blog post you haven’t updated in weeks. What’s another week? We won’t hold it against you… as much”.    Well, you’re right.   Good night!   Oh. I can hear the rest of you saying “Not enough words! Write more words! I paid good money to watch this in 3D and fooznit,

Cloth 101: How to size your bumGenius One-Size cloth diapers
September 17, 2012 11:28 am | by

At Cotton Babies, we believe that there are no dumb questions. Sometimes it is difficult if you are new to cloth diapers to understand exactly how our bumGenius, Flip, Econobum and Elemental Joy cloth diapers and covers can fit a growing baby from birth through potty training. Each of our one size cloth diapers have three rows of snaps, three snaps in each row. This 3×3 snap down design gives each diaper a small, medium and large size setting. We have some weight guidelines to help you know which size should fit your little one. To use the small rise setting, snap

Warehouse Roulette, Hunting for Snipes

My weekly blog post has turned into a random whack-a-mole post. Where is it? Where is it? There it is! Hit it! Bam Bam Bam!    Waiting for a load of laundry to finish and too tired to really be doing this, I shall tickle the softly glowing keys of my MacBook Air Freshener. Then, pound them like I’m typing on an old IBM clickety clickety keyboard! Rarrr! Words! Clack clack clack! More words!    In case you forgot or have no idea what Warehouse Roulette is, it’s my way of having something to write about. I’ve been bugged by

Cloth Diaper Creams

I’m a few months into this mom-of-two gig, and I feel like I’m starting to know what I’m doing. (Well, as much as any of us know what we’re doing.) I went into this knowing I’d cloth diaper Luke from the start, and would continue to cloth diaper Vicki until she’s potty trained. I seriously underestimated the amount of diaper laundry I would have. When Vicki was a newborn, we rented 24 newborn diapers because we weren’t sure if we would stick with cloth diapering. This time around, we purchased our newborn diapers so we would have them for future

Cloth 201: Cloth diapers and mold
September 3, 2012 3:06 pm | by

I know it’s a holiday, but quick… did you grab that wet bag out of the trunk of the car when you came home last night? If not, go run and grab it before you get distracted. It’s so easy to get distracted and lose track of a diaper or two, or even worse, your whole stash. It’s sad, but we occasionally hear stories of a cloth diapering parent’s worst nightmare… losing part or all of their cloth diaper stash due to mold, mildew or worse. Mold will look like little black dots scattered in the fibers of your cloth

Cloth 101: What is a wetbag?
August 13, 2012 4:33 pm | by

If you are new to our website, Mondays are our Cloth 101 and 201 blog posts. In Cloth 101 blog posts, our goal is to help answer all of those questions that run through the minds of new parents researching how to cloth diaper but they might be too afraid to ask. What is a wet bag? One of my first questions was “What the heck is a wetbag?” Simply put, a wetbag (or wet bag) is a waterproof bag designed to carry soiled cloth diapers and baby clothes until you can wash them. I know what you are thinking… ‘why

Cloth 201 - How to cloth diaper at night

Sometimes, cloth diapering a baby during the night-time hours can be a little tricky. There are a few things that experienced parents keep up our cloth diapering sleeves to make overnight cloth diapering easy. Here are seven  of our favorite tips to make overnight cloth diapering easy at your house too! Double stuffing, or putting multiple inserts into one diaper, is a simple technique to get more absorbency out of your cloth diapers. For pocket diapers like the bumGenius 5.0, simply add another insert in the pocket. I like to use a newborn microfiber insert along with the one-size insert

Cloth 201: Diaper Creams

One of the benefits of cloth diapering is that many parents discover they have less diaper rash once they switch to cloth. But sometimes life happens, be it a virus, food sensitivity, a detergent sensitivity, or an unfortunate poopy diaper that stays on too long. We get quite a few calls about how to safely use a diaper cream with your favorite Elemental Joy, bumGenius, Flip and Econobum products. Diaper rash creams are generally safe to use with cloth diapers when used in appropriate amounts. Follow the directions on the container for best results. When using a diaper rash cream that

Warehouse Roulette – Lemmings

I’ve been bugged by Jenn and others to write posts on the blog for a long time, but I didn’t want to have to figure out what to write about while staying somewhat on topic. So the obvious solution was to write about random things in the warehouse. Warehouse Roulette! To make it fun and very random, I put all of the warehouse locations in a box, mixed it up and drew a location.     No fun pranks in the warehouse this week, but we did have the uber popular dollar diaper sale last Saturday at the retail stores!

Cloth 101: What new parents need to know about cloth diapering.
May 19, 2012 10:37 am | by

When I was pregnant with my first baby, I decided to look into cloth diapering. I had heard it was very different from the cloth diapering of the olden days, so I thought I would try and find some more information and then make an educated decision about whether I wanted to try it or use disposables. I immediately became overwhelmed. What were prefolds? How many diapers did I need? How do you wash cloth diapers? Isn’t it gross? Why would anyone want to do this, anyway? So if you’re feeling inundated with too much information, here are the highlights
