Real Mom Talk: Tips for Moving with Kids
August 11, 2015 8:51 pm | by

year my husband and I went through a huge undertaking in our marriage: we moved! It was a long-anticipated and exciting time. But it was not without challenges! With 3 kids, our jobs, and an underwater mortgage, at times it felt insurmountable. We were living in our starter home: a tiny, 75-year-old bungalow about 5 minutes from where I grew up. We brought our first baby home, then the recession hit, which meant a loss of equity and lots of sweat and tears! A couple years later we brought home our second baby and started experiencing true growing pains that come

Real Mom Talk: How We Will Introduce Baby #3
July 27, 2015 7:28 pm | by

It’s been over three years since there has been a new baby in the house. In a little over three months, baby #3 will born! I would be lying if I didn’t say that I’m nervous to bring a tiny human into our home again. We’ll be starting all over — breastfeeding, cloth diapers, baby wearing. Literally everything. But the thing I’m actually most worried about is how the girls will take to this new family member. Aubrey was only 18 months old when her sister arrived, so it didn’t really change anything. We weren’t into a groove or anything yet for her life

Real Mom Talk: New Mom vs. Seasoned Mom
July 13, 2015 8:36 pm | by

During our twins eighth birthday celebration, we found all of their newborn pictures in old albums. We looked through each album, wondering where the last 8 years went. Seriously! It brought back all these memories of what I thought being a parent would be and all these ideas of what I could do. I realized I was a different parent 8 years ago with my first and here are just a few reasons that helped me come to this conclusion. Timid delivery: When my twins were born, I was almost afraid of upsetting the doctors and nurses. I didn’t assert my

Real Mom Talk: Having a Child in Glasses
June 16, 2015 7:33 pm | by

Earlier this year we found out that our little guy, who was just a little over the age of 2, would need glasses. It came as quite a shock to us. One evening, like any other ordinary evening, I was giving Asher a bath a noticed a slight eye turn with his left eye, almost like it was crossing, when he would focus on his bath toys. I thought maybe it was just me so I asked my husband for his opinion and he immediately noticed the same thing. As the evening went on I still continued to notice the

Real Mom Talk: Summer Activities for the Family
June 8, 2015 9:03 pm | by

Finding summer activities for kids who range in age can be challenging.  Older kids get bored.. the younger guys can’t sit still, so what’s a good middle ground? For the last few summers, I’ve watched seven (yes, seven) kids, ranging in ages 1-13. From this experience, I’ve found it IS possible to have a good summer that’s packed with engaging, budget-friendly activities for everyone. Hike/Walk/Ride: Everyone, not matter the age, enjoys spending time outdoors and getting a good dose of fresh air. Head to the park or bike trail and let the older kids bring their scooter if there’s a path. Bring a box to collect leaves

Real Mom Talk: 20 Things I’ve Learned Since Becoming a Mom
May 14, 2015 8:50 pm | by

Caring for a baby is something you don’t really know.. until you KNOW. Everyone sure has a lot of advice to share when they see your growing baby belly. Take some of it with a grain of salt, or heck — dismiss it all! With that being said, here’s what I’ve learned in my brief 8 months of parenting. For context, I’m a neurotic non-perfectionist and this list refers only to BABIES (really just my baby) and not CHILDREN. I don’t know a thing about children yet. Figure out the pump ahead of time. You may find yourself sobbing at 1:00

Real Mom Talk: The Sisterhood of Motherhood
May 12, 2015 8:12 pm | by

When I returned to work after having my third baby, I can’t tell you how many times people would shake their head and say, “I just don’t know how you do it!” As if I was crazy for trying to keep my job and raise children at the same time. These comments usually didn’t come from men either! I heard it from other women, even other moms! Perhaps it was my post-partum hormones, but I took it as a back-handed compliment—even though they probably said it with good intentions. The thing is, I didn’t feel like I was doing “it” very

Real Mom Talk: Why You Are a Good Mom
May 10, 2015 5:42 pm | by

Every mom is a good mom.  You wake up early every morning to feed your kids breakfast — whether it’s cereal, eggs, or a quick granola bar. You’re up, working hard, to get your kids ready for the day… even if you had a rough night with a sleepless child and could use a few extra ZZzzZs. Every mom is a good mom.  You may need a shower from constantly being on the go, but instead, you pull your hair back, throw on a pair of sweatpants, and sport that “tired mom” look with a smile. Every mom is a good
